Anders assists the Warden in retaking the Keep and is conscripted when an over-zealous Templar named Rylock demands that the Warden hand him over to her. The current ruler of Ferelden has arrived with Rylock in tow and backs the Warden on the conscription, and Anders partakes in the Joining and lives. Anders had performed multiple escape attempts from Kinloch Hold and had been in the custody of Templars returning him to the circle when they stopped at Vigil’s Keep and were attacked. Anders is a companion throughout Dragon Age: Awakening. If the Warden does not take Anders with them to the final battle in Awakening, rumors state Anders dies at Vigil’s Keep when the Keep is attacked at the same time. In Dragon Age 2, Anders runs a free clinic in Kirkwall to help Fereldan refugees and is always on the run from the Templars. He merged with the Spirit of Justice after Dragon Age 2 and this greatly complicates and increases his feelings about the way mages are treated. Hawke meets Anders while looking for a way into the Deep Roads for an expedition with Varric and his brother Bartrand. Anders has the maps Hawke needs, so Hawke helps Anders and Anders in turn gives him the maps. Anders is a companion throughout Dragon Age 2. Dragon Age: Inquisition It is unknown if Anders will return in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Bioware has stated that if Anders is dead in a particular play-through, that he will remain that way.
