Jaws of Hakkon: Worth the Price of Admission?

I don't think I've ever seen such polarized opinions regarding a Bioware DLC. Just from reading one 14-pager on the Bioware Forums, we have very opinionated people on both ends of the "is it worth it" spectrum. Seriously, why is this such a big deal? Either you want to play it or you don't, and if you do, you have the funds to purchase it or you don't. I've noticed a tendency of some people to attempt to rain on any parade. I'm not talking just at the Bioware forums, either, as it happens all over the 'net when it comes to game discussion. But enough about that..

I do feel a bit sorry for our Aussie friends, however. Their price is a bit steep today due to the going currency conversion rate placing the price right around $25-$30, so if you live in Australia I'd definitely wait for a more friendly exchange rate. (Late edit: Especially if you're in Australia, see if you can get it at GMG - it'll be less expensive if you have credits with them.) Not that people who don't play on PC or Xbox One have any choice right now, since it's not available for the PlayStation or Xbox 360 yet.

Speaking of which, there's no word yet on when the timed exclusivity is over. And I still haven't been able to dig up if it's just the first DLC that Microsoft gets the exclusive on, or all of them. Both of these would be really nice to know.

There is a theory going around that this first DLC was chosen because it's not really relevant to the story and Microsoft only gets one exclusive DLC. This would make any later, and hopefully meatier, DLC available for everyone when it is released. I kind of like this theory but am not holding my breath as to its validity.

If you'd like to read more in the "is it worth it" debate, head on over to Reddit where there's another lively discussion, and this other topic on the Bioware Forums where people are a bit more excited about it.

Apparently there is also a bug where the mission is not showing up on the war table for some people. I'll see if I can find any fixes for that.

Personally, I can't buy it - doesn't even matter what the price is, my monthly bandwidth allotment will not allow me to download it at its size of 1.5 GB. I downloaded the game at my daughter's, and that method is no longer available. So I'm out of the game anyway, so to speak <g> I hope those who do purchase it have fun :)

Another late edit: Game Informer has jumped on the bandwagon with a pro/con article on the DLC. The end verdict expresses some disappointment in the new-but-not-really-new zone and the fact that there appears to be no compelling story/character arcs or gear.

Just remember that YMMV - depending on what you like to see in additional game content, this could be something that's either a "meh" or right up your alley. At least Game Informer isn't trying to bash anyone for whether they purchase it or not :) And it's a well-written article - which I've come to expect and appreciate from the author (Joe Juba) - which is always a plus, so it's worth a read.
